I have three words for Michelle Obama, “elegant, understated fashion”. She simply has too many choices; she needs to learn to be a good editor. Style is as much about what you don’t choose as what you do.
American fashion is about uncomplicated clothes with clean lines worn with a dash of panache. Iconic American designers like Oscar de la Renta, Calvin, Klein, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan and Michael Kors know how to design contemporary clothing without falling prey to foofy, fussy design. (more…)
So, I’m doing my fashion magazine thing…going through last year’s issues with spring and summer fashions. I’m always amazed at what looks good to me the year after it is introduced, I think it takes my eye some time to adjust to new styles. (more…)
This is a frustrating subject because in our youth centered society, we are flooded with images of young women. Even when older women are in the public eye, most are trying to look years younger than they are which, in my opinion, looks ridiculous. (more…)
I don’t read Glamour often; occasionally I’ll leaf through my daughter’s issues and I find it to be geared to 20-30 year olds. But this article from Glamour.com has some good advice for dressing slimmer without the typical stodgy recommendations like “wear a scarf near your face to draw attention up”…
I did it again–we were invited to a holiday party last Saturday night and I spent all day Friday and Saturday making an outfit to wear (this blouse with the black velvet jeans in the previous post). I guess I work better under pressure, but just once I’d like to have my outfit ready and hanging in the closet while I take a leisurely bath and get ready to go. Happily my outfit did turn out great and I’m sure I’ll wear it a few times this season. (more…)
As the mother of a 22 year old, I’m at that stage in my life when some styles just aren’t attractive or appropriate anymore. My two biggest fears are looking like my mother and looking like my daughter. And, those of us who work hard to stay in shape walk a tightrope because we can wear just about anything (low rise jeans, skimpy tops), but there is a fine line between looking current and looking like a fashion victim.
