Coats, sweaters, tops and pants–that’s what you need for springtime in Chicago. Here it is, almost Easter and the temperatures are hovering around the freezing point. And we have 6 weeks more to go of this lovely spring weather, until about June 1st when summer usually arrives, hot and sticky.
I love this trench coat from Burberry, but this fabric could never be found in Chicago, so it’ll go on my wish list and maybe I’ll find it marked down 90% at the end of the season!
I’m planning on making 3 coats, fast so I can put my winter coats away and start wearing something a little spring-y looking at least.
The first I’ve started—a Badgley Mischka knock-off that I’ve been dreaming about since last spring. I’m using a beautiful silk suiting and fully lining the jacket so it will be warm and kind of dressy.
I also want a casual jacket in some kind of techno fabric with lots of topstitching and hardware. I’m using this design, from Narcisco Rodriguez, as inspiration but haven’t yet decided on white or black:
Lastly, I want a raincoat made with the lemon yellow cotton poplin I purchased last year. I’m so tired of trench coats and I’m thinking of a Balmacaan (this is from Michael Kors), ¾ length to look good with pants.
Here are some inspirations for tops I’ve been culling from the web and magazines. The idea here is to make things that will go into my summer wardrobe.
For the pants, I’ll purchase some of the jeans I referred to in my post, Jeans, Jeans Everywhere. I’ll use McCall’s 5633 that I used for my green linen shorts last summer and make the longer version, it’s a nice-fitting pattern. And I’ll make one or two dressy pairs of pants, in silk or linen. I saw this pair from Trina Turk on the web, they look awesome, but I haven’t found a pattern that looks similar.
The sweaters, shoes and accessories will be purchased; here are some selections that I’m considering:
(The yellow sweater is from Halogen at Nordstrom, the orange sweater is from Tahari also at Nordstrom, the gray sweaters are at Michael Stars.com and the ballet flats and sandals are at J. Crew.com)
Ta-ta for now!
