I made this dress to go with my DKNY cozy–that’s what I love about sewing, you can make a garment to wear with anything in your wardrobe. I love my cozy, it’s the perfect color and weight for late summer when the evenings are chilly and I was happy to find fabric to create a dress to go with it.
I found this silk chiffon remnant and liked it so much I made 2 things with it (the second is my next Project MyWay). I love the dark raisin and dark rose color combo in the late summer and best of all, it looks great with my cozy.
I used Simplicity 9557, out of print but available at Your Pattern Shop.com, and as usual made a few changes. I re-cut the front and back pieces of view C, removed the gathering from the front and re-drew the back so that it’s a full back, not a halter. I wore the dress and cozy to the city for dinner and it looked great! This is a very flattering style–empire waist with long darts in the front and back and the cut-away shoulders. It has a very straight skirt so I could cut the hem on the border print.
I skipped the zipper and finished the back with a slit and bias ties, partly because I’m lazy and partly because I like how it looks so nice and neat at the center back. It’s a little challenging to wiggle into, but I don’t care about that. (The price we pay for fashion!)

Ta-Ta for now!
