I don't know which I like better, the fabric as a dress or top. The dress is simple and chic.

Adorable new transition pump in Kate spade store in Tampa. Red suede spectator with tan leather. Too cute. $295 I think. I may have to wait for Dow 12,000 to buy them

I admire your spunk messing with pattern, I simply gave up on patterns after I realized that they NEVER fit me and simply guestimate most of what I do. Since it tends to be medieval these days, it isn't too problematic. But I have learned since doing the *medieval thing: Buttonholes can be done lovely and comparatively easy and clean by hand (especially if you only have to do a dozen and not like me ad nauseum the entire fron down ;)) and the best thing, you can do it while you are watching TV or listen to some show. Once you have figured out how to do them you'll never like the machine ones all that well. or (not with velvet) you can make piping buttonholes, once you know the trick, it is easier (IMHO) than making sure the buttonholes are evenly long and clean via the machine stitching version.
Again: chapeau!
